Bunker Hill Turns First Inning Into Home Run Derby

Bunker Hill 12U waited all weekend for a championship game.

Then it only needed one inning to blow it open.

Bunker Hill turned the bottom of the first into a 10-run fireworks show, launching back-to-back home runs with two outs and rolling to a 16-1 victory over the Lewis Cass 12U All Stars in the championship of the Town & Country 12U District II Tournament.

The rally started with steady pressure. Then it became a highlight reel.

Chandler H. opened the inning with a line-drive single, and Brody H. ripped a double to left to bring him home. Owen M. followed with a grounder through the middle that scored two more. Grady R. added another two-base hit, and Bunker Hill kept circling the bases until the lead reached 5-0.

Lewis Cass finally recorded the second out.

That was when Bunker Hill brought out the big bats.

With the bases loaded, Nolan D. crushed a line drive over the center-field fence for a grand slam. Brody stepped in next and lifted another ball out to left.

Two batters. Two home runs. Five runs.

Just like that, the championship game had become a 10-0 avalanche.

And Bunker Hill did not have a weak spot for Lewis Cass to attack. Nolan finished with four RBIs, while Chandler, Brody, Owen, Grady and Griffin R. each knocked in two. Seven players scored, and the lineup piled up 13 hits—six of them for extra bases.

Grady was especially difficult to contain. He collected three hits, including two doubles, and scored three times.

The power carried into the second inning, when Griffin launched a two-run homer to center to make it 12-1. Chandler later drove in two with a double, Grady brought home another run with his second two-bagger, and Trevor S. completed the scoring with a line-drive single to right.

By then, Bunker Hill’s pitchers had more than enough support.

Nolan struck out two while allowing one run, and Owen followed with four strikeouts across 1⅔ scoreless innings. Together, they limited Lewis Cass to five hits and quickly erased its best chance after two singles opened the game.

The championship finished the same way Bunker Hill’s entire weekend had gone: with its lineup producing runs in bunches and its pitchers shutting down any response.
Bunker Hill went 4-0 on the tournament weekend and outscored its opponents 46-12.
