Pratt Untouchable in No-Hitter Win Over Thunder

Katherine Pratt did not give Taunton Tornadoes 18U a single hit.

Not in the first inning. Not in the fifth. Not anywhere in between.

The Central Mass Thunder 18U pitcher controlled Friday’s game from the circle, striking out seven and facing just two batters over the minimum in a five-inning no-hitter. Once the Thunder offense broke loose behind her, Pratt had all the support she needed in an 8-0 victory.

She was sharp from the opening pitch.

Pratt struck out two batters in the first inning, working around a two-out walk without allowing the runner to move. She followed with a one-two-three second, then erased Taunton’s only other baserunner on a fielder’s choice in the third.

From there, nobody reached.

Pratt retired the final eight batters she faced. She struck out consecutive hitters in the fourth and finished the fifth with three straight groundouts, letting her defense put the final touches on the no-hitter.

Her final line was nearly untouchable: five innings, no hits, no runs, one walk and seven strikeouts. Of the 17 batters she faced, only two reached safely.

Pratt also helped give herself the lead.

Zoe Chila opened the bottom of the first with a single, stole second and raced home when Pratt drilled a line drive into center. That run stood alone through three innings as Taunton starter Daniella Williams kept the Thunder lineup from turning the game into a blowout.

Pratt made sure the 1-0 lead felt much bigger.

Then Central Mass finally cracked the game open in the fourth.

Ava Vendetti and Magdelina Sotiropoulos started the inning with singles before Riley Casagranda lined home a run. A walk loaded the bases, and Chila ripped a two-run single into left. Olivia Jankowski added another RBI hit before Pratt returned to the plate and knocked in the fifth run of the inning.

The Thunder added two more in the fifth. Caitlin Kelly and Sotiropoulos reached on consecutive hits, and Chila drove both home with a line drive to right.
Chila finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Sotiropoulos went 3-for-3 and scored twice. Pratt collected two hits and two RBIs.

But the story belonged to the pitcher who never gave Taunton anything to hit.

Eight Thunder runs made the score lopsided.

Pratt’s no-hitter made the performance special.
